HDMI cables made its entry at the right time. These cables enable us to load our media from our computer directly to out TV thereby preventing the need of making copies of CDs or DVDs. Hence we get to enjoy our music and movies on something that is far better than the normal laptop screen.

Each and every consumer goes through a leaning curve before purchasing a new product. There are a few who may have purchased the VCR in the 1980′s but are still breaking their heads to make it work properly. Similarly multitudes of people nowadays buy the HDMI cables without even having a basic idea of how to install it or make it work.

If you are connecting your HDMI cable for the first time, you may find it a little difficult to get the screen display right. There may be some flickering on the screen, a picture that scrolls and an incorrect aspect ratio, to name just a few of many problems you may face. Most TV sets will perform admirably with a co-axial cable.However, TV sets and signal standards are so different now a days that it is not the case of “one size fits all” with HDMI cables.

It is advisable that you know how to set your TV for optimal viewing. If you don’t know, however, here are a few steps to do just that when your HDMI cable does not seem to work:

1. Turn on your TV set or DVD player and from the menu options, access the HDMI settings.

2. Now set video to HDMI and set HDMI audio to the required level.

3. Set the HDMI resolution to the maximum allowable limit. Incase you have exceeded the permissible limit, you will notice that the picture becomes dull or scrambled. Mostly 576, 720 or 1080 are the suitable settings. Modern TV sets have a maximum resolution of 1080. But if you don’t know, please don’t experiment.

It is very simple after all. Most new gadgets using HDMI cables appear not to work initially, but actually it gets easier to operate these devices as we get to learn how they work.

You might have set all controls properly, but if you still experience problems you may just be working with a defective appliance. It is possible that your TV is not designed to work with HDMI signals or you might have a problem with the HDMI port on your TV. Your HDMI cable might simply be damaged. You can change the cable to see if that is the cause of the problem; if so you can simply return the cable and get yourself a brand new one.
