I recently was given a Sanyo CRT HDTV model # HT32744. In the process of moving this very large and very heavy CRT tv… it got a big scratch on the screen, about 4 inches and pretty deep. First off I though the screen was made of glass? But it appears to be made of some kind of thick plastic? maybe acrylic like a fish tank… either way, I was wondering is this just a plastic layer that can be removed? Or is this in the actual screen, and if so does anyone know a way to repair this? I can post images if need be.

I’m sure the scratch is in the screen, if you have a warranty, you might have to get the whole TV replaced.
Since its a CRT you can get the outside screen replaced. It is separate from the tube. You can also go to an auto parts store and get the windshield scratch filler, it is a polymer that fills the scratch. when polished up it is as transparent as glass.
Likely it is glass with an acrylic coating. They use the glass to protect the tube and cut down on radiation.
You can’t beat the picture on a HD CRT. I have a 37″ and it ways a ton.
The glass tube is scratched,
they haven’t used thick plastic in front of the tubes since the 1960′s.
No way to buff it out either.
Probably end up “living with it”
you can get it replaced
