So, you want to buy a shiny new HDTV?
Let’s talk about what an HDTV is, before we get started.
HDTV’s are the newest and best in TV technology, and offer much higher image clarity than it’s predecessors. For higher resolutions your TV needs to be connected to an HD signal.
When going out to evaluate a new TV make sure that you truly understand the various resolutions and whether or not you really need it. For some getting the highest quality picture is a must, while for others just being able to watch regular TV is enough.
When you visit your dealer, ask them to show you the real quality of the HDTV by tuning to a high definition signal. The only way you can really judge the distinctions in quality and definition between the television sets is if you can watch them all side-by-side as they display the same “feed.”
Ok, so we’ve talked about resolution, but what does it mean?
Well, the HDTVs currently come in a variety of flavors from 720 to 1080 – there are lower resolutions but you really shouldn’t consider anything less than 720 and really no less than 1080 if you want great quality picture. The resolutions come in a “i” and a “p” variety, the same goes for 720 resolutions – in other words, you have 1080i and 1080p.
1080i is the highest resolution you can get if you are only watching regular HD TV broadcasts. But, 1080p is the best resolution you are able to purchase for a television at this time.
As the regular broadcast TV would use 1080i only, there is no need to get the 1080p, however if you intend to buy a blue ray disc player or play the latest games on the xbox player then you should buy a 1080p.
While there are other areas that can make a difference in terms of your image quality such as: contrast ration, screen , brightness and other control features; the resolution is key to image quality as the difference between a regular non-HDTV and a 1080 resolution TV is a factor of six. A 1080p HDTV will have roughly 6 times better image clarity than older television sets.
This is by no means an exhaustive list of things you should know about before investing your hard earned money on a new HD TV set. Make sure you educate yourself and evaluate the various brands. There exist the major brands like Sony and Samsung and 2nd and 3rd tier brands are also available. Even though the specifications may be similar, there can still be a marked difference in each television sets performance. Watch out buyers!
One HDTV which sticks out as the greatest yet is the Samsung UN55B8000. This 55-inch LED HDTV has the greatest picture quality I have ever observed – devoid of any motion blur! Better than all the magnificent functions and extras, is the awesome price the UN55B8000 is presently marked at.
