Today’s fast-paced lifestyle has called for the creation of portable communication devices that would allow people to do their jobs while on the go. The computer started out decades ago as one huge mainframe and eventually began getting smaller and smaller into the netbooks we have today. In fact, students and executives alike are being seen typing away at their 10-inch netbooks nowadays, and only a few are caught carrying bulky laptops around.

The trend now is owning a computer that not only serves its purpose, but also fits nicely and comfortably into just about any mid-sized tote. Indeed, the era of netbooks and even much smaller computing devices has arrived.

What Is A Netbook?

A netbook, also called a mini notebook, is a small computer that is around 5 to 13 inches wide and weighs about 1 kilogram. These computers are best suited for general computing applications and also a lot cheaper than the regular sized notebooks. While netbooks aren’t really well-equipped to support powerfully graphic applications, for most business people and students, it serves its purpose satisfactorily.

Brands like Lenovo, Acer, HP and Sony have already released their exclusive line of netbooks, each boasting of a stylish design with added features. And with the attention notebooks have been getting from consumers, it’s highly likely that in a few years, they will be equipped with the same technology as regular high-powered laptops.

Why Do You Need A Netbook?

Three reasons:

1. It’s highly portable.

2. It can perform most computing functions.

3. It’s a lot cheaper.

Before, not everybody can afford to have a laptop and actually having one is considered a status symbol. Now, everybody can have their own netbooks and Samsung LED TVs, thereby making communication a lot easier and work-related duties done much faster. And because everything is virtually connected to the Internet nowadays, it would only make sense to be armed with a device that would keep you in tune with the times in the most practical way.

Regular laptops would cost about $1000 dollars, which is a real pain in the pocket. On the other hands, a netbook offers 80 per cent of the same features at just around $300. If you’re not really into highly graphic computing applications and are not a programmer, then you don’t really need a high-powered 15-inch laptop. You can perform word processing, Internet surfing, mp3 playing, and a host of other functions with a netbook that does not clean up your savings.

A netbook is perhaps the smartest decision laptop makers have ever made in the past years. And with technology evolving, its bound to become a lot smaller and more powerful in the future.
